Massey Ferguson 06.02.49 – TRANS2: There Is A Speed Reading from The PTO Speed Sensor That Does Not Match The Speed Selected Switch Dyna 6 (TRANS2)

The transmission controller is detecting a discrepancy between the physical speed of the PTO shaft (measured by the PTO speed sensor) and the expected speed based on the operator's selected PTO speed switch. This indicates PTO clutch slip, sensor failure, or a faulty selector switch.

   Connect Massey Ferguson Wintest diagnostic software and monitor the PTO speed tab while the PTO is engaged to verify if intermediate speed equals engine speed in the correct ratio

   Test the PTO speed sensor resistance with a multimeter when stationary (should be 450 ohms +/- 20 ohms)

   Perform a continuity test on the earth wire and the signal wire back to the TRANS2 controller, and check for short circuits

   Check the sensor gap and depth adjustment to ensure it is not too close or too far from the gear

   Verify the Fault

   Engage the PTO and use Wintest to observe the live data from the PTO speed sensor and the PTO speed selector switch.

   Test the Sensor

   Disconnect the PTO speed sensor harness. Using a multimeter, measure the resistance across the sensor pins.

   Replace if Faulty

   If the resistance is outside the 430–470 ohm range, the internal coil is damaged. Unthread the old sensor from the housing and install the replacement.

   Inspect the Switch

   If the sensor tests fine, test the PTO speed selector switch in the cab. Replace the switch if it fails continuity testing in either the 540 or 1000 RPM positions.

   Adjust Sensor Gap

   If reinstalling a sensor, ensure it is threaded to the correct depth so it can read the gear teeth without making physical contact.

   Clear Codes

   Reconnect all harnesses, clear the 06.02.49 DTC via Wintest or the tractor's DOT MATRIX hidden menu, and run the PTO under load to verify the repair.
