Massey Ferguson 06.02.4A – TRANS2: There Is A Speed Reading from The PTO Speed Sensor That Does Not Match The Speed Selected Switch Dyna 6 (TRANS2)

When the Power Take-Off (PTO) is activated, the reading from the PTO speed sensor must match the expected engine speed ratio based on the PTO speed switch selected. The transmission controller compares these two speeds primarily to detect PTO clutch slip. If the sensor reading does not match the expected value, this code is triggered, indicating either a faulty sensor, a wiring issue, or actual mechanical clutch slippage.

   Software Verification: Connect the tractor to the Wintest diagnostic software. Check the active and requested values for the PTO speed sensor while the PTO is engaged.

   Evaluate Readings: If the Wintest values are correct and match engine speed, the sensor is likely fine, and the issue may be mechanical (PTO clutch slip).

   Multimeter Test: If Wintest does not detect a value, the value is erratic, or the problem is intermittent, disconnect the sensor and test it using a multimeter. Check the resistance value of the sensor while the tractor is stationary.

   Wiring Check: Inspect the wiring harness between the PTO speed sensor and the TRANS2 controller for open circuits, shorts to ground, or corroded connectors.

   Locate the Sensor

   Locate the PTO speed sensor on the rear transmission/PTO housing.

   Inspect the Harness

   Disconnect the electrical connector. Check for dirt, moisture, or pushed-back pins. Clean with contact cleaner if necessary.

   Test the Sensor

   Measure the resistance across the sensor pins with a multimeter. Compare it to the OEM specification. If it reads out of limits (open or shorted), the sensor is internally failed.

   Replace if Faulty

   Unthread the faulty PTO speed sensor from the housing. Install the new sensor (ensure the O-ring is seated properly to prevent transmission fluid leaks) and tighten to OEM torque specs.

   Address Mechanical Faults

   If the sensor and wiring test perfectly fine, the fault code is accurately reporting PTO clutch slip. You will need to perform a pressure test on the PTO clutch circuit to diagnose internal hydraulic leaks or worn clutch packs.

   Clear Codes

   Reconnect the harness, clear the 06.02.4A fault code via Wintest or the tractor's diagnostic dash menu, and run the PTO under load to verify the repair.
