Massey Ferguson 06.02.50 – TRANS1: Issue With Values Received From Rear PTO Speed Sensors Dyna VT (TRANS1)

The transmission controller is receiving erratic, out-of-range, or missing signals from the magnetic inductive sensor responsible for monitoring the rotational speed (RPM) of the rear Power Take-Off (PTO) shaft.

   Visually inspect the PTO speed sensor tip for heavy accumulations of dust, mud, or metallic debris that can disrupt the magnetic signal

   Inspect the sensor's wiring harness (typically a 400mm cable) and connector for chafing, moisture ingress, or loose pins

   Verify the sensor air gap by ensuring it is threaded in correctly; improper spacing from the internal tone wheel causes erratic readings

   Perform a resistance test on the sensor using a multimeter; a healthy inductive PTO speed sensor typically reads approximately 540 Ohms

   Preparation

   Park the tractor on a level surface, engage the parking brake, and turn off the engine.

   Locate the Sensor

   Find the rear PTO speed sensor threaded into the rear transmission/PTO housing.

   Disconnect

   Unplug the electrical connector linking the sensor to the tractor's main wiring harness.

   Removal

   Use a wrench to unthread the faulty sensor from the housing. Have a rag ready, as a small amount of transmission/hydraulic fluid may weep from the port.

   Clean the Port

   Wipe the mounting port clean and inspect the internal tone wheel through the hole to ensure it isn't damaged or heavily coated in sludge.

   Installation

   Thread the new sensor into the housing. Tighten it to the manufacturer's specified depth to ensure the correct air gap is achieved (do not overtighten, as this can drive the sensor into the tone wheel).

   Reconnect

   Plug the electrical connector back into the harness.

   Testing

   Start the tractor, clear the stored 06.02.50 fault code via the Datatronic console or diagnostic tool, and engage the PTO at various speeds to verify that the RPM display shows steady, accurate readings without throwing the code again.
