Issue description

This fault indicates a discrepancy or signal error between the PTO Clutch Speed Sensor (often designated as sensor X15 in MF schematics) and the PTO Output Shaft Speed Sensor (sensor X16). The transmission controller continuously monitors and compares the rotational speed of the PTO clutch against the final output shaft. If the controller detects an implausible difference (e.g., a difference of more than 12% to 20% between the clutch speed and output speed), or if one of the sensor signals drops out entirely, this code is triggered.

Check the cause

  1. Use a diagnostic tool (such as Wintest software) to monitor the live RPM values of both the PTO Clutch Speed Sensor (X15) and the PTO Output Shaft Speed Sensor (X16) while the PTO is engaged to identify which sensor is dropping out or reading erratically.

  2. Inspect the wiring harnesses and connectors for both sensors. Check for a sensor supply voltage error, which can cause both sensors to read incorrectly.

  3. If both sensors are reading correctly but there is a speed differential under load, check for mechanical slippage. Verify if the PTO clutch disc is slipping or if the PTO brake is failing to engage the selected speed.

  4. Check the PTO speed selection solenoid valves (X3, X4) to ensure they are correctly connected and not locked in a deactivated position.

Repair steps

  1. Safety First

    Park the tractor on a level surface, turn off the engine, and disconnect the battery to prevent electrical shorts.

  2. Locate the Sensors

    The PTO speed sensors are inductive sensors mounted externally on the rear frame transmission housing, near the PTO shaft and clutch assembly. Access can be tight depending on the implement hitch setup.

  3. Remove the Faulty Sensor

    Disconnect the electrical connector from the faulty sensor (X15 or X16). Remove the retaining bolt holding the sensor in the transmission housing and carefully pull the sensor out.

  4. Install the New Sensor

    Clean the mounting port to ensure no debris falls into the transmission. Insert the new inductive speed sensor and secure it with the retaining bolt.

  5. Reconnect and Clear Codes

    Reconnect the wiring harness. Reconnect the battery, turn on the ignition, and use your diagnostic tool to clear the 06.02.60 fault code.

  6. Test Operation

    Run the tractor and engage the PTO (preferably with an implement attached to provide a load). Verify via the cab display or diagnostic tool that the PTO RPM readings are steady and the fault code does not return.
