06.02.E4

Massey Ferguson 06.02.E4 – TRANS1: Issue With Rear PTO On/Off Solenoid Power Supply Dyna VT (TRANS1)

Issue description

A circuit malfunction (such as an open circuit, a short to ground, or a short to power) in the electrical supply line feeding the solenoid valve responsible for engaging and disengaging the rear Power Take-Off (PTO) clutch. This prevents the transmission controller from properly actuating the hydraulic flow required to operate the PTO clutch, resulting in the PTO failing to engage, hesitating, or dropping out under load.

Applies to these machines

  • 7714
  • 7715
  • 7715S
  • 7716
  • 7716S
  • 7718
  • 7718S
  • 7719
  • 7720
  • 7720S
  • 7722
  • 7722S
  • 7724
  • 7724S
  • 7726
  • 7726S
  • Tier 4 (2015-2021)
  • 7700
  • 7700S

Check the cause

  1. Check the transmission/hydraulic fluid level and condition for low fluid or heavy contamination

  2. Inspect the wiring harness from the TRANS1 module to the rear PTO clutch solenoid valve (6V1 or X7) for chafed wires, melted insulation, or pinched harnesses

  3. Disconnect the plug at the PTO solenoid and inspect the connector for water ingress, corrosion, or pushed-out pins

  4. Perform a coil resistance test by measuring across the solenoid coil pins with a multimeter (expected value is approximately 10 Ohms; open or near 0 Ohms indicates internal damage)

  5. Test voltage supply at the harness connector with the tractor running and the PTO switch activated to ensure the TRANS1 module is sending the command signal

Repair steps

  1. Preparation

Park the tractor on a level surface, lower all implements, turn off the engine, and disconnect the battery to prevent electrical spikes.

  2. Relieve Pressure

Relieve any residual hydraulic system pressure by cycling the hydraulic valves.

  3. Locate the Solenoid

Locate the rear PTO clutch solenoid valve block on the transmission housing (usually near the rear PTO housing).

  4. Removal

Disconnect the electrical harness from the solenoid. Depending on the valve design, either remove the retaining nut at the end of the stem to slide the electromagnetic coil off, or use a wrench to unthread the entire hydraulic cartridge valve from the transmission housing.

  5. Installation

If installing a full cartridge, ensure the new O-rings are lightly lubricated with clean CMS M1145 spec transmission fluid. Thread the new valve in carefully by hand to avoid cross-threading, then torque to OEM specifications. Slide the coil on and secure the retaining nut.

  6. Reassembly & Testing

Reconnect the electrical harness and the battery. Start the tractor, allow the transmission oil to warm up, and test the rear PTO engagement from the cab to ensure smooth operation and verify the code has cleared.
