06.02.E5

Massey Ferguson 06.02.E5 – TRANS1: Issue With Values Received From Rear PTO Speed Sensors Dyna VT (TRANS1)

Issue description

The transmission control unit is receiving erratic, missing, or out-of-range electrical signals from the rear Power Take-Off (PTO) speed sensor. This can disable PTO functions or cause speed mismatch errors.

Check the cause

  1. Verify battery voltage stability and inspect the main grounds. Low voltage or poor grounds can cause the TRANS1 module to throw random sensor codes.

  2. Trace the wiring harness from the rear PTO speed sensor. Look for chafed wires rubbing on the frame, vibration damage, or melted insulation.

  3. Disconnect the sensor and inspect the pins. Dust, moisture, or loose pin tension inside the connector are common culprits for signal loss.

  4. Use a multimeter to check for continuity on the signal wire back to the TRANS1 module, and ensure there is no short-to-ground or open circuit on the sensor feed.

Repair steps

  1. Park the tractor on a level surface, turn off the engine, remove the key, and ensure the PTO is fully disengaged.

  2. Locate the Rear PTO Speed Sensor on the rear transmission housing/lift cover area.

  3. Clean the area around the sensor to prevent dirt from falling into the transmission housing.

  4. Depress the locking tab and disconnect the electrical harness connector from the sensor.

  5. Remove the retaining bolt securing the sensor to the housing.

  6. Carefully pull the old sensor straight out.

Have a rag ready, as a small amount of transmission fluid may weep from the port.

  7. Lubricate the O-ring on the new PTO speed sensor with clean transmission fluid and insert it into the housing.

  8. Install and tighten the retaining bolt.

  9. Reconnect the electrical harness, ensuring it clicks securely into place.

  10. Use a diagnostic tool to clear the 06.02.E5 DTC from the TRANS1 module.

  11. Start the tractor, engage the PTO, and verify that the PTO speed registers correctly on the dash without the code returning.
