Massey Ferguson 06.03.01 – TRANS1: Rear PTO Switch Signal Issue Dyna VT (TRANS1)

This fault code indicates an electrical signal irregularity or communication failure originating from the rear Power Take-Off (PTO) switch. The system has detected an invalid voltage, a short circuit (to +12V or ground), or a stuck switch state (e.g., a momentary switch stuck closed for longer than 30 seconds).

   Determine if the fault is originating from the in-cab PTO switch or the external fender-mounted PTO switch (errors can trigger if cab and fender controls are operated within 2 seconds of each other)

   Check if the momentary switch is physically stuck in the closed/depressed position (the TRANS1 module flags an error if closed for more than 30 seconds)

   Inspect the wiring harness leading to the fender-mounted rear PTO switch for an open circuit, a short circuit to ground, or a short to +12V across the switch wires

   Test the PTO relay coil to ensure it is not shorted to +12V or experiencing an open circuit

   Verify that the correct reference voltage is reaching the fender-mounted switch input

   Power Down

   Turn off the tractor and remove the key to de-energize the TRANS1 module.

   Access the Switch

   Locate the external rear PTO switch on the rear fender (or the in-cab switch, depending on which failed the diagnostic continuity test).

   Disconnect and Inspect

   Unplug the electrical connector from the switch. Inspect the pins for corrosion, moisture ingress, or bent terminals. Clean with contact cleaner if necessary.

   Test Continuity

   Use a multimeter to test the switch. It should show an open circuit when at rest and continuity only when actively pressed. If it shows continuity at rest, the switch has failed internally and must be replaced.

   Replace the Switch

   If faulty, pop the old switch out of its mounting bezel and snap the new OEM switch into place. Reconnect the wiring harness.

   Clear Codes

   Turn the ignition key to the ON position (engine off). Use the dashboard diagnostic access (holding the down switch for 3 seconds on certain models) or an OBD diagnostic tool to clear the 06.03.01 code from the TRANS1 module.

   Operational Test

   Start the tractor, engage the parking brake, and test the PTO engagement from both the cab and the fender to ensure the signal issue is resolved.
