Massey Ferguson 06.03.10 – TRANS1: Issue With Rear PTO Shaft Output Speed Sensor Signal Dyna VT (TRANS1)

The transmission control unit is receiving an erratic signal, an out-of-range signal, or no signal at all from the magnetic Hall-effect speed sensor monitoring the rear Power Take-Off (PTO) output shaft. Without this signal, the tractor's computer cannot accurately monitor or automate PTO speeds.

   Check the wiring harness leading to the PTO output speed sensor for chafing, breaks, or corrosion, and ensure the connector is securely seated.

   Remove the sensor and inspect the magnetic tip for metal shavings or debris that could distort the signal. Clean it and re-test.

   Verify that the tone wheel inside the housing is clean and undamaged, and check that the air gap between the sensor and tone wheel is correct.

   Look for accompanying codes (such as 06.01.60 for PTO Clutch Speed Sensor issues) which might indicate a broader transmission harness issue rather than an isolated sensor failure.

   Locate the Sensor

   Find the rear PTO output speed sensor threaded into the rear transmission/PTO housing.

   Disconnect

   Unplug the electrical connector from the sensor harness.

   Remove

   Unthread the faulty sensor from its mounting port.

   Clean

   Wipe the mounting port area clean to prevent dirt from entering the housing.

   Install

   Thread the new 40mm magnetic Hall-effect sensor into the mount. Ensure it is seated correctly so the air gap relative to the tone wheel is accurate.

   Reconnect

   Plug the tractor's wiring harness back into the new sensor.

   Clear Codes & Test

   Clear the 06.03.10 fault code using a diagnostic tool. Start the tractor, engage the PTO, and cycle it through different speeds to verify that the dash display shows steady, accurate RPM readings.
