Check the cause
Inspect the PTO 1000 button on the armrest/console for physical damage, sticking, or debris preventing the button from fully depressing or returning to its neutral position.
Carefully lift the console panel and inspect the electrical connector at the back of the switch for backed-out pins, corrosion, or moisture.
Disconnect the switch and use a multimeter to test it for proper continuity when pressed and released. If the switch tests fine, the issue is likely in the wiring harness.
Check the signal wires running from the switch to the TRANS1 module for open circuits, high resistance, or shorts to ground/power.
Repair steps
Power Down
Turn off the tractor ignition and disconnect the negative battery cable to prevent electrical shorts.
Access the Switch
Carefully remove the retaining screws or pry the clips holding the armrest control panel or side console where the PTO 1000 button is housed.
Disconnect
Unplug the wiring harness connector from the back of the faulty PTO switch.
Remove the Switch
Squeeze the retaining tabs on the sides of the switch body (or remove the locking collar, depending on the exact switch style) and push the switch up and out of the console panel.
Install the New Part
Push the new PTO switch into the panel cutout until the retaining clips snap securely into place.
Reconnect
Plug the wiring harness connector into the new switch. Ensure the locking tab clicks.
Reassemble
Reinstall the console panel and secure it with its screws/clips.
Test and Clear Codes
Reconnect the battery. Turn the ignition on and use the tractor's diagnostic menu (or a dealer diagnostic tool) to clear the 06.03.18 fault code. Test the PTO 1000 engagement to verify the repair.
