Check the cause
Use a specialized Massey Ferguson diagnostic tool to retrieve the active DTCs and confirm 06.03.B7 is currently active. Attempt to clear the code to see if it is a hard fault or an intermittent communication glitch.
Inspect the physical condition of the PTO 540 ECO button on the control console for sticking, physical damage, or liquid intrusion.
Check the wiring harness and connectors between the PTO switch and the TRANS1 module. Look for signs of corrosion, loose pins, or wire chafing that could disrupt the CAN bus communication.
Test the CAN bus communication lines at the switch connector for proper voltage and continuity to ensure the switch is receiving power and data link connections.
Repair steps
Disconnect battery
Disconnect the tractor's battery master switch before performing electrical repairs to prevent short circuits.
Remove console panel
Carefully remove the trim or console panel to access the rear of the PTO 540 ECO switch.
Inspect connector
Disconnect the electrical connector from the back of the switch. Inspect the connector for damaged pins or moisture; clean with electrical contact cleaner if necessary.
Remove faulty switch
If the wiring harness tests good but the CAN bus issue persists, the switch itself has likely failed internally. Unclip and remove the faulty PTO switch from the console panel.
Install new switch
Snap the new OEM replacement PTO switch into the panel and reconnect the wiring harness.
Reassemble and reconnect
Reassemble the console panel and reconnect the battery master switch.
Clear fault code
Turn the ignition on and use the diagnostic tool to clear the 06.03.B7 fault code.
Test operation
Test the PTO 540 ECO function to ensure proper operation and verify that the code does not return.
