Massey Ferguson 06.03.E2 – TRANS1 (Dyna VT) or TRANS2 (Dyna 6): Issue With Rear PTO On/Off Solenoid Power Supply

The transmission controller is detecting an irregularity in the electrical circuit (such as a short to ground, open circuit, or overcurrent) supplying power to the solenoid that hydraulically engages the rear Power Take-Off (PTO).

   Verify the battery is fully charged and supplying at least 12.4V+, as low system voltage can cause the ECU to drop the solenoid power supply.

   Disconnect the PTO solenoid and apply 12V and a ground directly to the pins (using a tool like a Power Probe) to see if the PTO engages mechanically, ruling out the solenoid itself.

   Check the wiring harness between the TRANS1 module and the PTO solenoid for continuity, looking for rubbed wires causing a short to ground.

   Verify the ground connection to the ECU itself, as a bad ground can prevent the circuit from completing.

   Ensure the cab PTO switch and fender-mounted PTO switches are not shorted or stuck, which can cause the controller to cut power.

   Check the transmission/hydraulic fluid level and the hydraulic filter, as low fluid or a plugged filter can cause low pressure mimicking electrical failures.

   Preparation

   Park the tractor on a level surface, turn off the engine, and relieve all hydraulic pressure.

   Disconnect Power

   Disconnect the negative battery cable to prevent electrical shorts during the repair.

   Locate the Valve

   Locate the Rear PTO On/Off Solenoid Control Valve on the rear transmission/axle housing.

   Removal

   Disconnect the electrical connector from the solenoid. Remove the retaining bolts/screws holding the valve in place and carefully pull the old solenoid valve out.

   Cleaning

   Clean the mounting surface thoroughly, ensuring no dirt or debris enters the open hydraulic port.

   Installation

   Lubricate the O-rings on the new solenoid valve with clean hydraulic fluid. Insert the new valve and tighten the retaining hardware.

   Reassembly

   Reconnect the electrical connector and the battery.

   Testing

   Top up the hydraulic fluid if any was lost. Start the tractor, engage the PTO switch, and verify proper operation without fault codes.
