Massey Ferguson 06.03.E6 – TRANS1: Issue With Values Received From Rear PTO Speed Sensors Dyna VT (TRANS1)

The transmission control unit is receiving erratic, implausible, or missing signals from the rear Power Take-Off (PTO) speed sensor. This means the controller cannot accurately determine the rotational speed of the rear PTO shaft, which can lead to the PTO failing to engage, unexpected disengagement, or safety lockouts to prevent transmission/clutch damage.

   Inspect the wiring harness leading to the rear PTO speed sensor on the transmission housing for chafed wires, rodent damage, or melted insulation

   Disconnect the sensor and check for water ingress, corrosion, or bent pins inside the connector

   Test the inductive sensor with a multimeter. A healthy PTO speed sensor typically reads a specific resistance (e.g., approx. 540 ohms). An open circuit or short indicates a dead sensor

   Remove the sensor and inspect the tip for excessive metal shavings. Verify that the internal tone ring/gear is intact and that the sensor gap is correct

   Preparation

   Park the tractor on a level surface, engage the parking brake, and turn off the engine. Disconnect the battery to prevent electrical shorts.

   Locate the Sensor

   Locate the rear PTO speed sensor on the rear transmission/PTO housing.

   Removal

   Depress the locking tab on the electrical connector and unplug the harness. Remove the retaining bolt holding the sensor in place. Carefully twist and pull the sensor out of the housing.

   Clean the Port

   Wipe the mounting surface and the sensor port clean to ensure the new sensor seats at the correct depth (incorrect depth will cause signal failure).

   Installation

   Lubricate the O-ring on the new sensor with a small amount of clean transmission fluid. Insert the new sensor into the housing and tighten the retaining bolt to OEM torque specs.

   Reconnection

   Reconnect the electrical harness until it clicks into place. Reconnect the battery.

   Calibration/Clearing

   Turn the key to the ON position. Use a diagnostic tool or the tractor's dashboard diagnostic menu to clear the stored 06.03.E6 fault code.

   Testing

   Start the tractor, engage the rear PTO at both 540 and 1000 RPM (if equipped), and verify that the PTO speed registers correctly on the dash and the code does not return.
