Massey Ferguson 06.2.07 – HITCH: Issue With PTO Solenoid Circuit (Hitch)

This code indicates an electrical fault in the circuit that controls the Power Take-Off (PTO) hydraulic solenoid valve. The controller has detected an irregularity—such as an open circuit, a short to ground, or a short to power—in the wiring harness or the solenoid coil itself. This solenoid is responsible for controlling the hydraulic flow that engages and disengages the PTO clutch. When this circuit fails, the PTO may hesitate, fail to engage, or fail to disengage.

   Locate the PTO solenoid valve on the transmission housing and inspect the electrical connector for dirt, corrosion, or loose pins.

   Trace the wiring harness from the solenoid back toward the Hitch controller. Look for rub points, pinched wires, or melted insulation that could cause a short to ground or an open circuit.

   With the tractor and key turned off, disconnect the electrical connector from the PTO solenoid. Use a multimeter to measure the resistance across the solenoid coil pins. An infinite reading indicates an open/broken internal coil, while a reading of near-zero ohms indicates a shorted coil.

   Turn the key on and probe the harness side of the connector while a helper toggles the PTO switch. Verify that the controller is sending the proper voltage signal to the valve.

   Ensure the hydraulic fluid is clean and at the proper level. Dirty fluid can cause the mechanical side of the valve to stick, sometimes overheating the coil.

   Safety First

   Park the tractor on a level surface, turn off the engine, relieve all hydraulic system pressure, and disconnect the battery.

   Locate the Valve

   Find the PTO hydraulic solenoid valve mounted on the transmission housing where the hydraulic lines connect to the PTO clutch system.

   Disconnect

   Unplug the electrical connector from the solenoid.

   Removal

   Unbolt the solenoid valve from its mounting plate/transmission housing. Have a catch pan ready, as a small amount of hydraulic fluid will leak out.

   Clean and Prep

   Clean the mounting surface on the transmission housing to prevent contamination.

   Installation

   Install the new solenoid valve, ensuring all O-rings/seals are properly seated. Torque the mounting bolts to OEM specifications.

   Reconnect

   Plug the electrical connector back into the new solenoid.

   Test

   Reconnect the battery, start the tractor, and check the hydraulic fluid level. Cycle the PTO switch to verify smooth engagement and ensure the fault code clears.
