Massey Ferguson 06.X.02 – TRANS1: Issue With Signal From Right External Rear PTO On/Off Button

The controller is receiving an invalid, missing, or continuous signal from the PTO push-button located on the right rear fender. This often triggers if the button is detected as being pressed for more than 30 seconds, indicating a mechanically stuck button, a short to power/ground, or an internal electrical fault. When active, PTO speed selection is disabled and the PTO cannot be engaged normally.

   Inspect the right rear fender PTO button for dirt, debris, or moisture causing it to physically stick in the depressed position.

   Disconnect the switch and inspect the wiring harness and connector pins for corrosion, water ingress, or broken wires.

   Use a multimeter to test the switch for continuity. Verify that the circuit opens and closes properly when the button is pressed and released. If it reads continuously closed, the switch has failed internally.

   Check the signal wire from the switch connector back to the TRANS1 module for any shorts to ground or breaks in the harness.

   Disconnect battery

   Turn off the tractor and disconnect the negative battery terminal to prevent electrical shorts.

   Locate switch

   Locate the right external rear PTO switch on the right rear fender.

   Unplug connector

   Reach behind the fender panel (or remove the fender extension/cover if access is restricted) and unplug the electrical connector from the back of the switch.

   Remove switch

   Squeeze the retaining tabs or remove the locking nut holding the switch in place, and push the switch out through the front of the fender housing.

   Clean mounting hole

   Clean the mounting hole on the fender to ensure the new switch seats properly and seals out moisture.

   Install new switch

   Insert the new OEM switch into the fender until it clicks or locks into place.

   Apply dielectric grease and connect

   Apply a small amount of dielectric grease to the electrical connector to prevent future corrosion, and plug it into the new switch.

   Reconnect battery

   Reconnect the battery.

   Clear DTC and test

   Clear the DTC using a specialized diagnostic tool (or cycle the ignition if the system self-clears inactive codes) and test the PTO engagement using the new fender button.
