Massey Ferguson 06.X.05 – Transmission Controller (TRANS1): Issue With Rear PTO Clutch Speed Sensor Signal Dyna VT / Dyna 6 (TRANS1) / Issue With PTO Solenoid Circuit (Hitch)

The system uses this Hall effect/magnetic sensor to monitor the rotational speed of the rear PTO. The controller compares the PTO speed to the engine speed to detect if the PTO clutch is slipping. If the signal is lost, out of range, or erratic, the computer will often shut down the PTO to prevent mechanical damage.

   Perform a resistance test on the sensor using a multimeter (should read 450 ohms +/- 20 ohms; infinite resistance indicates a broken internal coil)

   Check the sensor connector for corrosion and perform a continuity test on the earth and signal wires back to the TRANS1 controller, checking for short circuits to ground

   Verify the sensor gap/adjustment to ensure it is threaded to the correct depth and air gap relative to the tone wheel

   Remove the sensor and inspect the internal tone wheel for damage, missing teeth, or heavy debris/metal shaving buildup

   Locate the Sensor

   The rear PTO clutch speed sensor is mounted externally, close to the rear PTO shaft housing.

   Remove the Old Sensor

   Disconnect the wiring harness connector. Unthread the sensor from its mounting port.

   Clean and Inspect

   Clean the mounting face. Look through the port to ensure the tone wheel is clean and intact.

   Install the New Sensor

   Thread the new sensor into the housing. If the sensor utilizes adjustable lock nuts, ensure the proper air gap is set between the sensor tip and the tone wheel so it can read accurately without making physical contact.

   Reconnect and Test

   Plug the wiring harness back in. Start the tractor, engage the PTO at different speeds, and verify that the PTO RPM is displaying steadily on the dash/terminal and that the fault code has cleared.
