Massey Ferguson 06.X.08 – HITCH / TRANS1: The Engine RPM Has Dropped Too Much When The PTO Was Engaged
Issue description
Triggered when the tractor's control system detects an excessive drop in engine speed during the engagement of the Power Take-Off (PTO) clutch, causing the Anti-Stall Function to intervene to automatically disengage the PTO or neutralize the transmission.

Check the cause
Disconnect the PTO shaft from the implement and attempt to engage the PTO bare to rule out a jammed implement.
Ensure the engine RPM is sufficiently high before engaging the PTO switch, especially for high-inertia implements.
Check the transmission/hydraulic fluid level and filter condition, as low or dirty fluid can cause harsh engagement or slipping.
Inspect the wiring harnesses leading to the PTO clutch speed sensor, engine speed sensor, and the PTO engagement solenoid for rub points, loose pins, or corrosion.
Repair steps
Test the Sensors
Use a multimeter or diagnostic scan tool to monitor live data from the Engine Speed Sensor and the PTO Clutch Speed Sensor. If the PTO speed sensor drops out or reads erratically during engagement, replace the sensor.
Inspect the PTO Solenoid Valve
Locate the solenoid on the transmission housing, relieve hydraulic pressure, and remove it. Check for damaged O-rings or a burnt-out coil (test coil resistance).
Replace Faulty Components
If the solenoid or speed sensor fails testing, install the OEM replacement part. Ensure the mounting area is clean to prevent hydraulic contamination.
Clear Codes and Calibrate
Reconnect the battery, use a diagnostic tool to clear the 06.X.08 fault code, and perform a test engagement of the PTO (first without a load, then with a load) to verify the anti-stall function operates normally.
