Massey Ferguson 06.X.09 – TRANS1 (Transmission Module 1) / Hitch: Issue With PTO Circuit (Hitch) / PTO Switch Is On But The PTO Is Not Turning Dyna 6 (TRANS1)

The control module has received the command from the operator's PTO switch to engage the Power Take-Off, but the PTO output speed sensor is not detecting any rotation from the PTO stub shaft. This mismatch typically points to an electrical failure in the PTO solenoid circuit, a faulty PTO speed sensor (if the shaft is actually turning but not being read), or a hydraulic/mechanical failure preventing the PTO clutch from engaging.

   Turn on the PTO switch and safely observe if the PTO shaft is physically turning to determine if the issue is sensor-related or engagement-related.

   Locate the rear PTO engagement solenoid and use a multimeter to check for 12V power and a solid ground at the connector when the PTO switch is engaged.

   Measure the resistance (Ohms) across the PTO solenoid coil pins to check for an open circuit or internal short.

   If the solenoid receives voltage and clicks open, connect a pressure gauge to the PTO clutch test port to verify if hydraulic pressure is reaching the clutch pack.

   Inspect the Wiring Harness

   Check the wiring harness running down to the rear PTO solenoid and the PTO speed sensor. Look for chafing, broken wires, or corroded connector pins. Repair any damaged wiring.

   Replace the PTO Solenoid

   If the solenoid fails the resistance test or is receiving voltage but not opening the hydraulic valve, depressurize the system, unbolt the faulty solenoid valve from the transmission/hydraulic block, and install a new OEM solenoid.

   Replace the PTO Speed Sensor

   If the PTO shaft engages physically but the tractor still throws the 06.X.09 code and shuts down the PTO, remove and replace the PTO speed sensor located near the rear output shaft.

   Clear Codes and Calibrate

   Use a diagnostic tool to clear the TRANS1 / Hitch module fault codes. Run the tractor, engage the PTO, and verify that the shaft spins and the code does not return.
