06.X.10

Massey Ferguson 06.X.10 – TRANS1: Issue With Rear PTO Shaft Output Speed Sensor Signal Dyna VT (TRANS1)

Issue description

The transmission controller is receiving an erratic, missing, or out-of-range signal from the inductive speed sensor that monitors the rotational speed of the rear Power Take-Off (PTO) shaft.

Check the cause

  1. Inspect the wiring and connector near the rear PTO shaft for broken wires, corrosion, or oil intrusion

  2. Check sensor clearance to ensure it is mounted securely with the proper air gap from the internal tone wheel

  3. Inspect the tone wheel inside the housing for damage, missing teeth, or built-up debris

  4. Perform a live data test using a diagnostic tool to monitor PTO speed data while engaged, verifying if the signal is dead or dropping out intermittently

Repair steps

  1. Locate the Sensor

Find the PTO speed sensor mounted on the rear transmission/PTO housing, directly adjacent to the PTO shaft.

  2. Clean the Area

Thoroughly clean the exterior area around the sensor to prevent dirt or debris from falling into the transmission housing during removal.

  3. Disconnect

Unplug the electrical connector from the sensor.

  4. Remove

Unbolt and carefully pull the old inductive sensor out of the housing.

  5. Install

Insert the new sealed sensor into the housing. Ensure it is seated correctly to maintain the proper distance from the tone wheel.

  6. Reconnect

Plug the factory connector back into the new sensor (no rewiring is needed for direct OEM replacements).

  7. Clear Codes

Use a diagnostic tool to clear the 06.X.10 fault code from the TRANS1 module.

  8. Test

Engage the PTO at various speeds to verify accurate readings and ensure the code does not return.
