Check the cause

  1. Perform a switch actuation test by physically inspecting the Auto PTO rocker switch for sticking, damage, or debris

  2. Remove the switch and perform continuity testing across the switch terminals using a multimeter when toggled

  3. Inspect the wiring harness and connectors between the Auto PTO switch and the TRANS1 module for pinched wires, chafing, or loose/corroded pins

  4. Check for related PTO switch codes (e.g., 06.X.12, 06.X.13); if multiple are present, suspect a shared ground failure or main harness disconnect

Repair steps

  1. Power Down

Turn off the tractor, remove the key, and disconnect the negative battery terminal to prevent electrical shorts.

  2. Access the Switch

Carefully pry up the trim panel on the right-hand armrest or side console where the PTO command switches are located.

  3. Disconnect

Unplug the electrical pigtail from the back of the Auto PTO switch.

  4. Test/Replace

If the switch failed the multimeter continuity test, push the retaining tabs on the side of the switch body to pop it out of the console bezel, and snap the new OEM switch into place.

  5. Wiring Repair (If applicable)

If the switch was functional, trace the circuit back to the TRANS1 module. Repair any broken wires and clean the module connector pins with electronic contact cleaner.

  6. Reassembly

Reconnect the switch pigtail, reinstall the console trim, and reconnect the battery.

  7. Clear Codes & Test

Turn the key to the ON position. Use the tractor's onboard diagnostic menu or a dealer service tool to clear the 06.X.11 inactive code. Start the tractor, engage the Auto PTO, and raise/lower the 3-point hitch to verify the PTO engages and disengages automatically.
