Check the cause
Inspect the PTO 540 ECO button on the right-hand armrest/console for physical sticking, damage, or packed dust/debris.
Carefully lift the switch panel and inspect the electrical connector at the back of the switch for loose pins, moisture, or corrosion.
Disconnect the switch and use a digital multimeter to test the internal contacts, verifying that the circuit opens and closes cleanly when pressed.
Check the wiring harness for continuity and shorts to ground between the switch connector and the TRANS1 controller.
Repair steps
Power Down
Turn off the tractor ignition and disconnect the negative battery terminal to prevent electrical shorts.
Access the Switch
Carefully pry up the retaining bezel or remove the securing screws on the right-hand console/armrest to access the underside of the PTO switch panel.
Disconnect
Unplug the wiring harness connector from the back of the faulty 540 ECO PTO switch.
Remove
Depress the retaining tabs on the sides of the switch body and push it upward out of the console panel.
Replace
Snap the new OEM switch into the panel until it clicks securely into place.
Reconnect
Plug the wiring harness back into the switch, ensuring the locking tab engages.
Reassemble
Reinstall the console panel and reconnect the battery.
Clear Codes
Connect a compatible diagnostic tool (e.g., Jaltest or Massey Ferguson EDT) to clear the 06.X.17 fault code from the TRANS1 memory.
Test
Start the tractor and test the PTO 540 ECO engagement to ensure the signal is recognized and the code does not return.
