Check the cause

  1. Inspect the PTO neutral button on the multifunction armrest/console for physical damage, sticking, or debris preventing it from returning to its resting position.

  2. Disconnect the switch and use a multimeter set to continuity/ohms to test the contacts (should be open circuit at rest, continuity when pressed).

  3. Inspect the wiring harness between the PTO switch and the TRANS1 controller for chafed wires, pinched lines in the armrest pivot, or corroded connector pins.

  4. Ensure no other safety interlocks (like seat switches or fender PTO buttons) are overriding the circuit and causing a CAN BUS signal conflict.

Repair steps

  1. Power Down

Turn off the tractor and disconnect the negative battery cable to prevent electrical shorts while working on the armrest console.

  2. Access the Switch

Carefully pry up or unscrew the trim panel on the multifunction armrest or side console where the PTO controls are housed.

  3. Disconnect

Locate the back of the yellow PTO neutral button. Unplug the 3-pin electrical connector.

  4. Remove

Depress the retaining tabs on the sides of the switch body and push the switch up and out through the top of the console panel.

  5. Install

Snap the new OEM PTO switch into the panel until the retaining clips lock. Reconnect the 3-pin wiring harness.

  6. Reassemble & Reconnect

Reinstall the console trim panel and reconnect the tractor's battery.

  7. Clear Codes

Turn the key to the ON position. Use a compatible Massey Ferguson diagnostic tool to clear the 06.X.55 code from the TRANS1 module.

  8. Test

Start the tractor and test the PTO engagement and neutral functions to ensure the signal is being read correctly.
