Massey Ferguson 06.X.B5 – TRANS1: Issue With CAN BUS From PTO Neutral Button Dyna VT (TRANS1)

Communication failure on the tractor's Controller Area Network (CAN BUS). The transmission controller is failing to receive the expected digital signal or message from the PTO (Power Take-Off) Neutral Button. This is typically caused by a failed switch, a damaged wiring harness, or a corroded connector interrupting the CAN network signal.

   Perform a switch continuity test using a multimeter to check for proper continuity across the terminal leads when the PTO Neutral button is pressed and released

   Inspect the wiring harness and connectors between the PTO/linkage console (X145) and the TRANS1 module for chafed wires, pinched harnesses, or loose pins

   Perform a CAN BUS network test by checking the CAN High and CAN Low lines for proper voltage and resistance (should read around 60 ohms with the battery disconnected)

   Check for related companion codes (such as 06.X.55) to confirm if the issue is isolated to the button's signal or if the entire CAN BUS node is dropping offline

   Disconnect Power

   Turn off the ignition and disconnect the tractor's battery to prevent electrical shorts while working on the CAN BUS system.

   Access the Console

   Locate the PTO control console (typically integrated into the right-hand multifunction armrest or side console). Carefully remove the trim panels to expose the underside of the switch panel.

   Disconnect the Switch

   Unplug the electrical connector from the back of the PTO Neutral button.

   Test/Replace the Switch

   If the switch failed the multimeter diagnostic check, unclip it from the console and snap a new OEM switch into place.

   Repair Wiring

   If the switch tested fine, the fault lies in the CAN BUS wiring. Trace the harness from the console to the TRANS1 module, repairing any broken wires or cleaning corroded connector pins.

   Reassembly

   Reconnect the switch harness and reinstall the console trim panels.

   Clear Codes

   Reconnect the battery, turn on the ignition, and use a compatible Massey Ferguson diagnostic tool (such as the Wintest software interface) to clear the 06.X.B5 fault code. Verify that the PTO neutral button now registers correctly on the dashboard or diagnostic tool.
