06.X.B6

Massey Ferguson 06.X.B6 – TRANS1: PTO 540 Button CAN BUS Issue

Issue description

This fault indicates a communication failure or signal error on the tractor's Controller Area Network (CAN BUS) originating specifically from the 540 RPM Power Take-Off (PTO) engagement switch. The TRANS1 controller is not receiving the expected CAN messages when the button is pressed, or the signal is corrupted.

Check the cause

  1. Perform a switch actuation test to check the physical condition of the PTO 540 button for damage, sticking, or debris.

  2. Inspect the wiring harness and connectors between the PTO switch console and the TRANS1 module for chafed wires, pinched harnesses, or loose or corroded pins.

  3. Test the CAN BUS network using a multimeter at the switch connector (CAN High: 2.5V to 2.7V, CAN Low: 2.3V to 2.5V) and ensure the twisted pair is intact.

  4. Verify switch operation using a compatible diagnostic tool to monitor live data from the TRANS1 module while actuating the switch.

Repair steps

  1. Disconnect power

Turn off the tractor and disconnect the negative battery terminal to prevent electrical shorts during repair.

  2. Access the switch

Carefully pry up or unscrew the trim panel on the right-hand armrest or side console where the PTO switches are mounted.

  3. Disconnect the harness

Unplug the electrical connector from the back of the PTO 540 switch.

  4. Replace the switch

If the switch is faulty, depress the retaining tabs on the sides of the switch body, push it up through the console bezel, and snap the new OEM switch into place.

  5. Repair wiring

If diagnostic checks revealed a broken CAN wire, splice and solder the damaged section. Ensure the CAN wires remain twisted (approximately 1 twist per inch) to prevent electromagnetic interference.

  6. Reassemble console

Reconnect the switch harness, reinstall the console trim, and reconnect the battery.

  7. Clear codes and test

Use the diagnostic tool to clear the 06.X.B6 historical fault code. Start the tractor and engage the 540 PTO to verify the repair.
