06.X.E4

Massey Ferguson 06.X.E4 – TRANS1: Issue With Rear PTO On/Off Solenoid Power Supply Dyna VT

Issue description

This code indicates an electrical fault—specifically a lack of power supply, a short, or an open circuit—in the circuit that powers the rear Power Take-Off (PTO) engagement solenoid valve. This solenoid is responsible for controlling the hydraulic pressure that engages and disengages the PTO clutch pack.

Check the cause

  1. Inspect the fuse box for any blown fuses related to the transmission controller (TRANS1) or the PTO circuit

  2. Check the wiring harness leading to the rear PTO solenoid for physical damage, chafing, or melted wires

  3. Disconnect the solenoid connector and check for dirt, moisture, or corroded pins

  4. Use a multimeter to verify that the solenoid is receiving proper voltage when the PTO switch in the cab is engaged

  5. Ensure the in-cab PTO engagement switch is functioning correctly and sending the command to the TRANS1 module

  6. Check the resistance (ohms) across the solenoid coil pins to verify it has not failed internally (open circuit or dead short)

Repair steps

  1. Depressurize the System

Ensure the tractor is turned off, the implement is disconnected, and the hydraulic system is fully depressurized.

  2. Clean the Area

Thoroughly clean the area around the PTO control valve manifold to prevent dirt or debris from entering the hydraulic system during removal.

  3. Disconnect Electricals

Unplug the wiring harness connector from the faulty PTO solenoid.

  4. Remove the Solenoid

Unbolt and carefully remove the solenoid valve from the hydraulic manifold.

  5. Install the New Valve

Lubricate the O-rings/seals on the new solenoid valve with clean hydraulic fluid. Insert it into the manifold and tighten the mounting bolts to the OEM torque specification.

  6. Reconnect and Test

Reconnect the electrical harness. Start the tractor and test the PTO engagement and disengagement multiple times to ensure the fault code clears and the PTO operates smoothly without slipping or staying engaged.
