Massey Ferguson 06.X.E8 – TRANS1: Issue With Rear PTO On/Off Solenoid Power Supply Dyna VT (TRANS1)
Issue description
This indicates an electrical fault—such as an open circuit, short to ground, or short to power—in the circuit that supplies voltage to the solenoid responsible for engaging and disengaging the rear Power Take-Off (PTO) clutch.

Check the cause
Inspect the Solenoid Connector: Locate the rear PTO solenoid on the transmission hydraulic valve block. Disconnect it and check for water ingress, corrosion, or pushed-back pins.
Check Harness Continuity: Trace the wiring harness from the PTO solenoid back to the TRANS1 module. Test for continuity, and ensure the wires are not rubbed through, shorting to the tractor chassis (ground), or shorting to another power wire.
Test Solenoid Resistance: Use a multimeter to measure the resistance across the pins of the PTO solenoid coil. An open reading (infinite resistance) or a dead short indicates a burnt-out coil that must be replaced.
Verify Power Supply: Back-probe the connector and activate the PTO switch in the cab (ensure safety protocols are followed and the operator presence switch is satisfied). Verify that the TRANS1 module is actually sending the correct voltage to the solenoid.
Repair steps
Safety First
Park the tractor on a level surface, lower all implements, turn off the engine, and remove the key. Chock the wheels.
Locate the Valve
Locate the PTO engagement solenoid on the transmission control valve block (usually located on the right-hand side or top of the rear transmission housing, depending on the specific series).
Disconnect Electronics
Unplug the electrical connector from the faulty PTO solenoid.
Remove the Solenoid Coil
Remove the retaining nut at the end of the solenoid stem. Slide the electromagnetic coil off the valve cartridge. (Note: If the hydraulic cartridge itself is stuck or leaking, you will need to unthread the entire cartridge from the valve block. Have a catch pan ready for hydraulic fluid).
Install the New Part
Slide the new solenoid coil onto the valve stem and secure it with the retaining nut. Torque to OEM specifications (do not overtighten, as this can distort the valve spool).
Reconnect and Test
Plug the electrical connector back in. Start the tractor, engage the PTO, and verify that the PTO shaft spins up smoothly.
Clear Codes
Use a compatible diagnostic tool to clear the 06.X.E8 code from the TRANS1 module memory.
