08.0.1B

Massey Ferguson 08.0.1B – HITCH: Rear Hitch External Control Buttons Signal Issue (HITCH)

Issue description

The tractor's onboard diagnostic system has detected an abnormal voltage signal coming from the external 3-point hitch control buttons located on the rear fenders (mudguards). This typically indicates an open circuit, a short to ground, a short to power, or a mechanically failed/sticking switch.

Check the cause

  1. Inspect the external fender buttons for physical damage, cracked rubber boots, or sticking mechanisms caused by water ingress or debris.

  2. Trace the wiring harness from the mudguard switches back to the main cab harness. Look for chafing, breaks, or pinched wires caused by debris or tire rub.

  3. Disconnect the switch and inspect the electrical connector pins for green corrosion or moisture.

  4. Use a multimeter to verify that the switch is receiving reference voltage. Test the switch continuity when pressed and released to see if the internal contacts have failed.

Repair steps

  1. Preparation

Turn off the tractor ignition and disconnect the battery to prevent short circuits.

  2. Access the Switch

Locate the faulty external hitch switch on the rear mudguard/fender.

  3. Removal

Reach behind the fender lip (or remove the protective cover/extension kit if equipped) to access the back of the switch. Disconnect the electrical wiring harness connector.

  4. Dismounting

Squeeze the retaining tabs on the sides of the switch body and push it outward through the fender hole.

  5. Cleaning

Clean the wiring harness connector with electrical contact cleaner. If the rubber sealing boot is damaged, ensure the mounting surface on the fender is clean.

  6. Installation

Snap the new switch into the mudguard housing until it clicks securely into place. Reconnect the wiring harness.

  7. Relearn/Activation

Reconnect the battery and turn on the ignition. On many Massey Ferguson Global Series tractors, activate the fender switches by pressing the button Up, Down, Up, Down, and then hold the Up button.
