Massey Ferguson 08.00.31 – HITCH: Issue With Signal From Rear Hitch Right Draft Pin

Issue description

The voltage signal coming from the right draft pin sensor (load sensing pin) is outside the normal operating range. The system detects that the signal is either failed low/open circuit or failed high/shorted.

Check the cause

  1. Inspect the wiring harness leading to the right rear draft pin for physical damage, chafing, or pinched wires.

  2. Disconnect the right draft pin sensor and check the connector for moisture, dirt, or corroded pins.

  3. Test the sensor's wiring circuit with a multimeter to ensure it is receiving the correct reference voltage (typically 5V or 8V) and that there is no short to ground or short to power.

  4. Swap the left and right draft pin connections (if the harness allows) to see if the fault code changes to the left pin (08.00.32). If the code follows the pin, the pin sensor is internally failed.

Repair steps

  1. Power Down

Turn off the tractor and disconnect the battery to protect the HITCH module.

  2. Wiring Repair

Repair any damaged wires or replace the connector pigtail if corrosion is found.

  3. Sensor Replacement

If the wiring is intact, the right draft pin sensor has failed. Support the lower link arm to remove tension, remove the retaining hardware, and slide out the faulty right draft pin.

  4. Install New Pin

Insert the new draft sensor pin, secure the retaining hardware, and plug in the electrical connector.

  5. Calibration

After replacing a draft pin, you must perform a Hydraulic System / Electronic Draft Control calibration to allow the HITCH module to learn the new sensor's zero-load voltage baseline.

  6. Clear Codes

Clear the 08.00.31 fault code and test the rear linkage operation.
