Massey Ferguson 08.00.51 – HITCH: Issue With Signal From Rear Hitch Left Draft Pin (HITCH)

Issue description

The voltage signal from the left draft pin sensor (load pin) is outside of its normal operating range. Specifically, the circuit may have a higher-than-normal signal voltage, be shorted to a positive voltage source, or have an open signal ground. When this fault occurs, the electronic draft control system will typically enter a degraded mode, relying solely on the right draft pin to operate the hitch in draft mode.

Check the cause

  1. Inspect the rear main wiring harness, the left draft pin sensor, and the sensor connectors for physical damage, corrosion, or moisture.

  2. Test the wire harness for damaged wires, checking for continuity on the signal, power, and ground circuits.

  3. Test the left draft pin circuit specifically to see if it is shorted to a positive voltage source or if it has an open signal ground.

Repair steps

  1. Turn keyswitch OFF

Turn the tractor's keyswitch to the "OFF" position.

  2. Disconnect connectors

Disconnect the left draft pin sensor connector and the corresponding harness connectors.

  3. Repair or replace wiring

If the wiring harness or connectors are damaged, repair or replace the affected sections.

  4. Remove faulty draft pin

If the wiring tests perfectly but the voltage reading remains out of range, the left draft pin sensor has failed internally. Remove the faulty left draft pin from the lower link arm assembly.

  5. Install new draft pin sensor

Install the new draft pin sensor. Note: Ensure the load pin is oriented correctly according to the alignment grooves/brackets, as improper installation will produce faulty draft readings.

  6. Reconnect wiring harness

    Reconnect the wiring harness.

  7. Clear fault codes

Turn the keyswitch "ON" and clear the fault codes.

  8. Perform calibration

Perform a rear hitch calibration procedure via the tractor's instrument panel/terminal to ensure the new sensor is properly zeroed.
