Massey Ferguson 08.00.60 – HITCH: Rear Linkage Lower Solenoid Open Circuit (HITCH)
Issue description
The control module has detected a break in the electrical circuit responsible for activating the solenoid that lowers the rear 3-point hitch. An open circuit typically means that electrical current cannot flow because a wire is cut, a connector is unplugged, or the internal copper windings of the solenoid coil have burned out and broken. As a result, the tractor's computer will likely disable the hitch to prevent erratic operation.

Check the cause
Visual Inspection: Crawl under the rear of the tractor and locate the EHR hydraulic valve block. Inspect the electrical connector plugged into the 'Lower' solenoid. Look for disconnected plugs, pushed-out pins, or heavy corrosion.
Harness Check: Trace the wiring harness from the solenoid back toward the HITCH module. Look for obvious rub points, pinched wires, or breaks in the loom.
Coil Resistance Test: Unplug the connector from the lower solenoid. Use a digital multimeter set to Ohms (Ω) to measure the resistance across the two pins on the solenoid itself. If the reading is within normal spec (usually a few ohms), the solenoid is good, and the open circuit is in the wiring harness. If the reading is 'OL' (Out of Limits / Infinite), the solenoid coil is internally broken and must be replaced.
Ground Integrity: Ensure the ground circuit for the solenoid is clean and tight.
Repair steps
Safety First
Park the tractor on a level surface, lower the rear linkage mechanically if it is suspended, turn off the engine, and disconnect the battery to prevent electrical shorts.
Access the Valve
Locate the rear linkage lower solenoid on the rear hydraulic control block. Clean the area around the valve with brake cleaner to prevent dirt from entering the hydraulic system.
Wiring Repair
If the diagnostic checks revealed a broken wire, splice and solder the wire, sealing it with marine-grade heat shrink.
Solenoid Replacement
If the coil is dead, disconnect the electrical plug. Remove the retaining nut or snap-ring at the end of the solenoid stem. Slide the faulty electromagnetic coil off the valve cartridge. Slide the new solenoid coil onto the stem and secure it with the retaining nut.
Reassembly
Plug the electrical connector back in until it clicks.
Clear Codes
Reconnect the battery and turn the key on. Use a compatible Massey Ferguson diagnostic tool to clear the 08.00.60 code from the HITCH module. Test the raise/lower function of the rear linkage.
