Massey Ferguson 08.00.61 – HITCH: Rear Linkage Lower Solenoid High Amp Draw

The controller has detected that the electrical current (amperage) being drawn by the solenoid responsible for lowering the rear hitch is exceeding the maximum allowable threshold, indicating an internal short circuit within the solenoid coil, a short-to-ground in the wiring harness, or a failing solenoid.

   Inspect the wiring harness from the HITCH module to the rear linkage lower solenoid for chafed insulation, melted wires, or pinch points shorting to the chassis

   Disconnect the electrical plug at the lower solenoid and inspect the pins for water ingress, corrosion, or damage

   Perform a coil resistance test using a multimeter across the pins of the lower solenoid coil; a reading near zero ohms indicates an internal short

   Perform a harness short test with the solenoid disconnected and ignition on, using a multimeter to ensure the supply wire is not shorted to ground

   Preparation

   Park the tractor on a level surface, lower the rear hitch completely (if possible, or support it mechanically so it does not drop unexpectedly), turn off the engine, and disconnect the battery.

   Locate the Valve

   Locate the rear hitch hydraulic control valve block, typically mounted at the rear of the tractor near the linkage assembly. Identify the specific 'Lower' solenoid (refer to the machine's hydraulic schematic if the raise and lower solenoids are adjacent).

   Clean the Area

   Thoroughly clean the exterior of the valve block and solenoid to prevent dirt from contaminating the hydraulic system.

   Remove the Solenoid

   Disconnect the electrical connector. Remove the retaining nut at the end of the solenoid stem. Slide the faulty electromagnetic coil off the valve cartridge. (Note: If the cartridge itself is sticking and causing the coil to overwork, you may need to unscrew and replace the entire cartridge valve).

   Install the New Part

   Slide the new solenoid coil onto the stem and tighten the retaining nut to the OEM torque specification.

   Reassembly

   Reconnect the electrical connector and the battery.

   Testing

   Start the tractor and test the rear hitch raise and lower functions. Use a compatible diagnostic tool to clear the 08.00.61 fault code from the HITCH module.
