Massey Ferguson 08.01.10 – HITCH: Rear Linkage Raise Solenoid Open Circuit
Issue description
The control module has detected an incomplete electrical circuit (open circuit) on the line that powers the solenoid responsible for raising the rear 3-point hitch. This condition is typically caused by a disconnected electrical plug, a broken wire in the harness, or a burned-out solenoid coil. Because the circuit is open, the tractor will disable the hitch raise function to prevent erratic operation.

Check the cause
Inspect the wiring harness leading to the rear hitch hydraulic control valve block (usually located at the rear of the tractor). Look for obvious harness rub points, severed wires, or disconnected plugs.
Disconnect the plug at the raise solenoid. Inspect the pins for corrosion, moisture, or pushed-out terminals.
Using a multimeter, measure the resistance across the pins of the raise solenoid coil. An 'open circuit' fault usually means the coil has failed internally and will read infinite resistance (O.L).
If the solenoid coil tests within normal resistance specifications, check the continuity of the wiring harness from the solenoid connector back to the HITCH module to isolate a broken wire or a bad ground.
Repair steps
Power Down
Turn off the tractor ignition and disconnect the battery to prevent electrical shorts during the repair.
Locate the Valve
Locate the rear hitch hydraulic control valve block at the rear of the tractor. Identify the "Raise" solenoid (it is usually paired on the same block with the "Lower" solenoid).
Disconnect
Unplug the electrical connector from the raise solenoid.
Wiring Repair (If Applicable)
If the diagnostic checks revealed a broken wire, splice and repair the wire using weather-sealed heat-shrink connectors.
Solenoid Replacement (If Applicable)
If the solenoid coil failed the resistance test, remove the retaining nut holding the coil to the hydraulic valve stem. Slide the old coil off and slide the new replacement coil on. Secure it with the retaining nut (do not overtighten, as this can warp the coil).
Reassembly
Reconnect the electrical plug, ensuring the locking tab clicks securely into place.
Clear Codes & Test
Reconnect the battery. Turn the ignition on, clear the fault codes using a compatible diagnostic tool (or cycle the ignition if the system self-clears inactive codes), and test the rear hitch raise/lower functions to verify the repair.
Parts you might need
(1)Rear Linkage Raise Solenoid Coil / Hitch Raise Solenoid
Specific OEM part numbers for the solenoid coil vary heavily by exact tractor model and the specific valve block manufacturer (often Bosch Rexroth EHR components). Look up the exact part number in the AGCO/Massey Ferguson parts catalog using the tractor's specific serial number.
