08.01.11

Massey Ferguson 08.01.11 – HITCH: Rear Linkage Lower Solenoid High Voltage (HITCH)

Issue description

This code indicates that the control module has detected an abnormally high voltage on the circuit for the rear linkage lower solenoid. This typically points to a short to power in the wiring harness, a failed solenoid coil (internal short), or a faulty control module sending incorrect voltage.

Check the cause

  1. Visually inspect the wiring harness running from the HITCH module to the rear linkage lower solenoid for rubbed-through insulation, pinched wires, or corrosion at the connectors.

  2. Perform a voltage and continuity test: Disconnect the lower solenoid, turn the key ON, and measure voltage at the harness connector. Voltage present when not commanded indicates a short to power in the harness.

  3. Test the solenoid coil: Measure the resistance (ohms) across the pins of the lower solenoid. An out-of-specification reading or a dead short indicates internal coil failure.

  4. Perform a direct actuation test: Supply 12 volts directly to the lower solenoid (bypassing the control module) with the engine running. If the hitch lowers, the valve is mechanically sound; if not, the solenoid plunger or hitch valve is stuck.

Repair steps

  1. Power Down

Turn off the tractor, remove the key, and disconnect the negative battery cable to prevent electrical spikes.

  2. Locate the Solenoid

Locate the rear hitch control valve block (usually mounted at the rear of the tractor near the linkage). Identify the "Lower" solenoid (often marked or positioned opposite the "Raise" solenoid).

  3. Remove the Faulty Component

Disconnect the electrical connector from the lower solenoid. Remove the retaining nut or bolts holding the solenoid coil to the valve stem. Slide the old solenoid coil off.

  4. Inspect the Valve Stem

Ensure the valve stem is clean, not bent, and free of debris.

  5. Install the New Solenoid

Slide the new solenoid coil onto the valve stem and secure it with the retaining nut/hardware. Do not overtighten, as this can distort the valve.

  6. Reconnect and Test

Reconnect the electrical harness. Reconnect the battery.

  7. Clear Codes

Use a compatible diagnostic tool to clear the 08.01.11 fault code from the HITCH module.

  8. Operational Check

Start the tractor and operate the rear hitch raise/lower rocker switch to confirm smooth operation and ensure the code does not return.
