Massey Ferguson 08.01.16 – HITCH: Rear Hitch Module Voltage Issue (HITCH)

The control unit responsible for the electronic rear hitch (EHR) is detecting a voltage supply that is out of range. This is typically caused by an electrical power issue such as low voltage during cranking, a weak charging system, poor ground connections, or a wiring harness problem (open circuit or short).

   Test the battery voltage (should be ~12.6V resting) and the alternator output to rule out low system voltage

   Inspect the wiring harness leading to the Rear Hitch Module for rub points, chafing, or breaks

   Check the main chassis grounds and the specific ground wire for the hitch module circuit

   Disconnect the Rear Hitch Module and inspect the pins for corrosion, moisture, or loose connections

   Test the power supply pins at the module connector with the key ON to ensure it is receiving full battery voltage

   Disconnect Power

   Disconnect the negative battery terminal before working on the tractor's electrical system.

   Clean and Secure Connections

   If corrosion is found at the Rear Hitch Module connector, clean the pins with electrical contact cleaner and apply dielectric grease.

   Repair Wiring

   Splice and heat-shrink any damaged wires or rub points found in the harness leading to the module. Clean and tighten all ground terminals.

   Reassemble and Clear Codes

   Reconnect the module and the battery. Use a compatible Massey Ferguson diagnostic tool to clear the 08.01.16 DTC.

   Test Operation

   Start the tractor and test the rear hitch raise/lower functions.

   Module Replacement

   If the wiring, grounds, and voltage supply are all confirmed to be within specification but the code immediately returns and the hitch remains unresponsive, the Rear Hitch Module itself has an internal fault and must be replaced.
