Massey Ferguson 08.01.62 – HITCH: Rear Linkage Raise Solenoid High Amp Draw (HITCH)

The control module has detected that the electrical current (amperage) being drawn by the rear linkage raise solenoid exceeds the normal operating specifications. This condition is typically caused by an electrical short circuit (either a shorted internal coil within the solenoid itself or a short to ground in the wiring harness). It can also occasionally be triggered if the hydraulic valve is mechanically stuck, causing the solenoid to overwork and draw excessive current.

   Inspect the wiring harness and connectors running from the HITCH module to the rear linkage raise solenoid on the hydraulic valve block for chafed wires, melted insulation, or corrosion that could cause a short to ground.

   Disconnect the electrical plug at the raise solenoid and measure the resistance (ohms) across the solenoid's pins. If resistance is extremely low or reads as a dead short, the internal coil has failed.

   With the solenoid disconnected, check the power supply wire in the harness for continuity to ground. If there is continuity, the wiring harness has a short circuit.

   Ensure the physical spool valve that the solenoid actuates is not jammed or sticking due to debris in the hydraulic fluid, which can cause the solenoid to overwork.

   Safety First

   Park the tractor on level ground, lower any attached implements to relieve hydraulic pressure, turn off the engine, and remove the key.

   Locate the Solenoid

   Locate the rear linkage control valve block (typically mounted on or near the rear hydraulic lift cover). Identify the specific "Raise" solenoid.

   Disconnect

   Unplug the electrical connector from the faulty raise solenoid.

   Remove the Solenoid Coil

   Remove the retaining nut or fastener at the end of the solenoid stem. Slide the faulty solenoid coil off the valve cartridge. (Note: If the entire cartridge valve needs replacing, unscrew the cartridge from the valve block, being prepared to catch a small amount of hydraulic fluid).

   Install the New Part

   Slide the new solenoid coil onto the stem and secure it with the retaining nut.

   Reconnect and Clear

   Reconnect the electrical harness. Use a compatible Massey Ferguson diagnostic tool to clear the 08.01.62 fault code from the HITCH module.

   Test

   Start the tractor and operate the rear linkage raise/lower switch to confirm the repair.
