Massey Ferguson 08.01.B4 – HITCH: Rear Hitch Module Calibration Issue

Issue description

The tractor's onboard diagnostic system has detected that the rear three-point hitch linkage is out of calibration, or a calibration procedure was aborted/failed. This prevents the hitch from accurately determining its position, draft, or limits.

Check the cause

  1. Ensure there is no implement mounted to the three-point hitch during calibration.

  2. Lengthen both the right-hand and left-hand lift links so that a minimum of 50 mm (2 inches) of thread is visible.

  3. Check the wiring harness and components (specifically the position sensor and hitch module) for damage, connector corrosion, or loose connections.

  4. Verify the linkage position sensor gap and orientation, and ensure the linkage has free movement without binding.

  5. Check the external controls and ensure that the lifting switch raises the linkage to its mechanical stop (you should hear a hydraulic pump throttling sound).

Repair steps

  1. Reset the Linkage

If the calibration appears to be incorrect or locked, reset the linkage by pressing the "Shock Absorber" (transport dampening) switch 5 times in quick succession. This forces the calculator to use default values.

  2. Start Calibration

Initiate the new calibration procedure via the tractor's diagnostic menu or dashboard sequence (varies slightly by exact model/dash type).

  3. Define Stops

The procedure will require you to define the high and low mechanical stops by moving the linkage to its extremes.

  4. Measure Signals

The system will automatically measure the sensor signals for precision and measure the solenoid valve currents.

  5. Validate

The calibration is validated by checking the linkage's full range of motion and verifying sensor sensitivity. If the code persists, the position sensor or the hitch module itself may be faulty and require replacement.
