Massey Ferguson 08.02.10 – HITCH: Rear Linkage Raise Solenoid Open Circuit (HITCH)

The controller has detected a break in the electrical circuit (an 'open circuit') for the solenoid valve responsible for raising the rear 3-point hitch/linkage. This is typically caused by a broken wire, a disconnected or corroded plug, or a burnt-out solenoid coil. When this code is active, the rear hitch will likely fail to raise or will not respond to cab controls.

   Visual Inspection: Inspect the wiring harness leading to the rear linkage valve block (usually located at the rear of the transmission housing) for obvious rub points, pinched wires, or rodent damage.

   Connector Check: Unplug the connector at the 'Raise' solenoid. Check for water ingress, dirt, or corroded/pushed-back pins.

   Coil Resistance Test: Using a multimeter, measure the resistance (Ohms) across the two pins of the solenoid coil. If the multimeter reads 'OL' (out of limits/infinite resistance), the internal coil is broken (open) and the solenoid must be replaced.

   Harness Continuity: If the coil tests good, check the continuity of the wiring harness from the solenoid connector back to the HITCH module to rule out a broken wire.

   Safety First

   Lower the rear linkage fully to the ground to relieve hydraulic pressure. Turn off the tractor and disconnect the battery.

   Locate the Solenoid

   Locate the rear linkage hydraulic valve block at the rear of the tractor. Identify the specific solenoid responsible for the 'Raise' function (refer to the machine's specific hydraulic schematic if the raise and lower solenoids are identical).

   Clean the Area

   Thoroughly clean the area around the valve to prevent dirt from entering the hydraulic system.

   Remove the Solenoid

   Disconnect the electrical plug. Depending on the valve design, either remove the retaining nut at the end of the stem to slide the electromagnetic coil off, or unbolt the entire cartridge valve from the block.

   Install the New Part

   Slide the new coil onto the stem (or thread the new cartridge valve into the block, taking care not to pinch the O-rings). Tighten to OEM torque specs.

   Reassemble and Test

   Reconnect the electrical plug, reconnect the battery, and start the tractor. Test the rear hitch raise function to ensure smooth operation and verify that the 08.02.10 code has cleared.
