Massey Ferguson 08.02.11 – HITCH: Rear Linkage Lower Solenoid High Voltage (HITCH)

The system has detected an abnormally high voltage on the circuit for the rear linkage's "lower" solenoid. In 12V DC systems, a "High Voltage" fault code typically indicates a short to power (the circuit is touching a live wire) or an open circuit/broken ground path that is causing the module to read the full reference voltage without the expected voltage drop across the solenoid coil.

   Trace the wiring harness from the HITCH module to the rear linkage control valve block. Look for pinched wires, chafing, or melted insulation that could cause a short to power.

   Disconnect the plug at the lower solenoid. Inspect the pins for corrosion, water ingress, or bent terminals. Clean with contact cleaner if necessary.

   Measure the resistance (Ohms) across the two pins of the lower solenoid coil. If it reads 'OL' (open loop) or an unusually high resistance, the internal coil is broken and the solenoid must be replaced.

   With the key ON (engine off) and the connector unplugged, probe the harness side to see if voltage is constantly present when it shouldn't be, which would confirm a wiring short.

   Ensure the in-cab lift/lower rocker switch and the mudguard (fender) buttons are not stuck or damaged, as they command this circuit.

   Safety First

   Lower the rear three-point hitch fully to the ground to relieve all hydraulic pressure from the lift cylinders. Turn off the tractor and disconnect the negative battery terminal.

   Locate the Valve

   Locate the rear linkage hydraulic control valve block, typically mounted at the rear of the tractor near the lift cover/cross shaft.

   Clean the Area

   Thoroughly clean the area around the solenoid valves with brake cleaner or a degreaser to prevent dirt from entering the hydraulic system.

   Disconnect

   Unplug the electrical connector from the "Lower" solenoid.

   Remove the Solenoid

   Depending on the valve design, either remove the retaining nut at the end of the stem to slide the electromagnetic coil off, or use a wrench to unthread the entire solenoid cartridge valve from the valve block.

   Install the New Part

   Slide the new coil onto the stem (or thread the new cartridge into the block, torquing to OEM spec).

   Reassemble

   Reconnect the electrical plug. Reconnect the battery.

   Test

   Start the tractor and operate the rear linkage using both the in-cab controls and the fender buttons to ensure smooth lowering and to verify the fault code has cleared.
