Massey Ferguson 08.02.1B – HITCH: Mud Guard Rear Hitch Buttons Signal Voltage Issue

Issue description

This code indicates that the tractor's onboard diagnostic system has detected an abnormal voltage signal (such as an open circuit, short circuit, or out-of-range voltage) coming from the external rear linkage raise/lower rocker switches located on the rear mudguards (fenders).

Check the cause

  1. Inspect the external mudguard hitch buttons for physical damage, sticking rocker mechanisms, or heavy dirt/moisture ingress.

  2. Trace the wiring loom from the rear fender switches back to the HITCH module. Look for chafed wires, pinched lines, or broken connections.

  3. Disconnect the switch and inspect the electrical contacts for corrosion, rust, or bent pins.

  4. Use a multimeter to test the switch for proper continuity when the rocker is pressed up and down. Verify that the reference voltage from the HITCH module is reaching the connector.

Repair steps

  1. Power Down

Turn off the tractor, remove the key, and ensure the hydraulic system is shut down and the rear hitch is safely lowered or supported.

  2. Access the Switch

Locate the faulty up/down rocker switch on the rear mudguard/fender.

  3. Remove the Switch

Carefully pry or unclip the switch housing from the mudguard panel.

  4. Disconnect the Harness

Unplug the factory wiring harness connector from the back of the switch.

  5. Install the New Part

Connect the new OEM rocker switch to the wiring harness (it is a direct drop-in replacement).

  6. Mounting

Snap the new switch securely back into the mudguard housing, ensuring the weather-sealing rubber is seated correctly to keep moisture out.

  7. Testing

Turn the tractor on and test the external up/down operation to ensure the hitch moves correctly and the 08.02.1B fault code clears.
