Massey Ferguson 08.02.28 – HITCH: Issue With Signal From Hitch Draft Control Dial (HITCH)

The controller is receiving an erratic, out-of-range, or missing electrical signal from the rotary dial/potentiometer used by the operator to set the draft control sensitivity for the rear 3-point hitch.

   Inspect the wiring harness and connectors between the draft control dial on the right-hand armrest/side console and the HITCH module for pinched wires, chafing, or loose pins.

   Verify that the potentiometer is receiving a steady 5V reference signal and has a solid ground from the HITCH module using a multimeter.

   Back-probe the signal wire at the dial and perform a signal sweep test by slowly turning the draft control dial from minimum to maximum. Voltage should scale smoothly between 0.5V and 4.5V. If it drops out, spikes, or reads 0V/5V constantly, the potentiometer has failed internally.

   Ensure there are no other CAN-bus or communication codes present, which could indicate a broader harness issue rather than an isolated dial failure.

   Disconnect Power

   Turn off the tractor and disconnect the negative battery terminal to prevent electrical shorts.

   Access the Switch

   Carefully pry up or unscrew the trim panel on the right-hand armrest or side console where the draft control dial is mounted.

   Disconnect the Dial

   Locate the electrical connector at the base of the draft control dial and unplug it.

   Remove the Old Dial

   Remove the retaining nut, clips, or screws holding the switch assembly into the console panel and pull the faulty dial out.

   Install the New Part

   Seat the new draft control switch into the panel and secure it with the retaining hardware.

   Reconnect

   Plug the electrical connector into the new switch. Reinstall the console trim panel.

   Restore Power & Clear Codes

   Reconnect the battery. Turn the key to the ON position and use a compatible diagnostic tool to clear the 08.02.28 fault code.

   Calibration

   Depending on the exact model, you may need to perform a rear hitch module calibration via the tractor's dash terminal or diagnostic tool to teach the module the new potentiometer's minimum and maximum values.
