Massey Ferguson 08.02.60 – HITCH: Rear Linkage Lower Solenoid Open Circuit (HITCH)

The control module has detected a break in the electrical circuit (an open circuit) supplying the solenoid responsible for lowering the rear three-point hitch linkage. Because the circuit is open, the solenoid cannot actuate, and the rear hitch will likely fail to lower or respond to operator commands.

   Visual Inspection: Check the wiring harness leading to the rear linkage hydraulic valve block. Look for obvious rub points, severed wires, or melted insulation.

   Connector Check: Disconnect the plug at the lower linkage solenoid. Inspect the pins for corrosion, moisture ingress, or pushed-out terminals.

   Coil Resistance Test: Using a multimeter, measure the resistance across the pins of the lower solenoid coil. An 'open circuit' reading (infinite resistance / OL) confirms the internal coil has failed and the solenoid must be replaced.

   Harness Continuity Test: If the solenoid coil tests within normal resistance specifications, test the continuity of the wiring harness from the solenoid connector back to the HITCH module pins to locate the break in the wire. Check ground integrity as well.

   Power Down

   Turn off the tractor, remove the key, and disconnect the negative battery terminal to prevent electrical shorts during repair.

   Locate the Valve

   Locate the rear hitch hydraulic control valve block (typically mounted at the rear of the tractor near the linkage assembly). Identify the specific "Lower" solenoid (refer to the machine's specific hydraulic schematic if both raise and lower solenoids look identical).

   Remove the Faulty Solenoid

   Disconnect the electrical harness connector from the solenoid. Remove the retaining nut or bolts holding the solenoid coil to the valve stem. Slide the old solenoid coil off the valve cartridge.

   Install the New Solenoid

   Slide the new OEM solenoid coil onto the valve stem and secure it with the retaining nut/fastener (do not overtighten, as this can distort the coil).

   Reconnect

   Plug the electrical harness back into the new solenoid, ensuring the weather seal clicks firmly into place. Reconnect the battery.

   Clear Codes and Test

   Use a compatible Massey Ferguson diagnostic tool to clear the 08.02.60 fault code from the HITCH module. Start the tractor and test the rear linkage raise/lower functions to ensure proper operation.
