Massey Ferguson 08.02.62 – HITCH: Rear Linkage Raise Solenoid High Amp Draw (HITCH)

The control module is detecting an abnormally high electrical current (amperage) being drawn by the solenoid responsible for raising the rear 3-point linkage. A high amp draw typically indicates a short circuit within the solenoid coil itself, a short to ground in the wiring harness, or a failure within the control module.

   Inspect the wiring harness running from the HITCH module to the rear linkage hydraulic valve block for pinched wires, chafing against the chassis, or melted insulation.

   Disconnect the electrical connector at the raise solenoid and check for water ingress, corrosion, or melted pins.

   Using a multimeter, measure the resistance (Ohms) across the pins of the raise solenoid coil. A reading at or near zero indicates the internal coil is shorted.

   With the solenoid and HITCH module disconnected, test the wiring harness for continuity to ground to check for a grounded out harness.

   Relieve Pressure

   Lower the rear linkage completely to the ground to relieve hydraulic pressure in the system.

   Disconnect Power

   Turn off the tractor and disconnect the negative battery terminal to prevent electrical spikes.

   Locate the Valve

   Locate the rear linkage hydraulic valve block (typically mounted at the rear axle housing). Identify the specific "Raise" solenoid.

   Remove the Solenoid

   Disconnect the wiring harness from the solenoid. Remove the retaining nut at the end of the valve stem.

   Swap the Coil

   Slide the faulty solenoid coil off the valve cartridge. (Note: If replacing the entire valve cartridge rather than just the coil, thoroughly clean the area, unscrew the cartridge from the block, and be prepared to catch a small amount of hydraulic fluid).

   Install the New Part

   Slide the new solenoid coil onto the stem and tighten the retaining nut.

   Reassembly

   Reconnect the electrical connector and the battery.

   Clear Codes & Test

   Use a compatible Massey Ferguson diagnostic tool to clear the 08.02.62 fault code. Start the tractor and test the rear hitch raise/lower rocker switches to confirm smooth operation without the code returning.
