Massey Ferguson 08.03.12 – HITCH: Rear Linkage Raise Solenoid High Voltage (HITCH)

Issue description

The system has detected an abnormally high voltage on the circuit that controls the rear linkage (3-point hitch) raise solenoid. This typically indicates a short to power, an open circuit (a lost connection causing the controller to read a floating high voltage), or an internally failed solenoid coil.

Check the cause

  1. Inspect the wiring harness leading to the rear linkage raise solenoid on the hydraulic valve block for wire rub points, pinched wires, or melted insulation that could cause a short to power.

  2. Check the external multi-pin plug that routes through the cab floor (often secured with a screw collar) to ensure the pins are clean, free of corrosion, and making a solid connection.

  3. Unplug the raise solenoid and use a multimeter to test the resistance across the solenoid coil pins. An infinite reading indicates an open circuit or blown coil.

  4. Verify the ground circuit for the solenoid, as a lost ground can cause the circuit voltage to read high at the module.

Repair steps

  1. Power Down

    Turn off the tractor, remove the key, and disconnect the negative battery terminal to prevent electrical spikes.

  2. Locate the Solenoid

    Locate the rear linkage control valve block at the rear of the tractor. Identify the 'Raise' solenoid (refer to the service manual diagram for your specific model to distinguish it from the 'Lower' solenoid).

  3. Clean and Inspect

    Disconnect the electrical pigtail from the solenoid. Clean the contacts with electrical contact cleaner. If the connector is heavily corroded, splice in a new connector pigtail.

  4. Replace the Solenoid (if faulty)

    If the solenoid failed the resistance test, remove the retaining nut or clip holding the coil to the valve stem. Slide the old coil off. (Note: On some MF valve blocks, the entire cartridge valve must be unscrewed and replaced).

  5. Install New Part

    Slide the new solenoid coil onto the stem and secure the retaining nut. Reconnect the wiring harness.

  6. Clear Lockout & Test

    Reconnect the battery and start the tractor. Note: Massey Ferguson electronic hitches have a safety lockout on startup to prevent sudden dropping. You must cycle the up/down rocker switch to clear the lockout before the hitch will respond.

  7. Clear Codes

    Use a compatible Massey Ferguson diagnostic tool to clear the 08.03.12 inactive code from the HITCH module memory.
