Massey Ferguson 08.03.18 – HITCH: Rear Hitch Raise/Lower Rocker Switch Signal Issue

Issue description

This code indicates a signal fault or electrical issue with the rocker switch that controls the raising and lowering of the rear 3-point hitch. The system is detecting an irregular voltage, an open circuit, or a short in the switch's wiring, preventing the hitch from responding to operator commands.

Check the cause

  1. Cycle the hitch rocker switch (switch it off, then on again, or cycle up/down) to see if the system resets and clears the code.

  2. Use a multimeter to test the rocker switch for continuity. Confirm whether the switch itself has failed internally (e.g., burnt contacts) before assuming a hydraulic or module issue.

  3. Inspect the wiring harness leading to the switch (both in the cab and on the rear mudguard/fender, if applicable). Check for proper voltage at the plug terminals; irregular voltage indicates a short in the harness.

  4. Turn off the tractor, locate the master disconnect switch, press it, and leave it for 30 minutes to shut down the modules completely. Restart and re-test.

Repair steps

  1. Disconnect Power

Turn off the tractor and engage the master battery disconnect switch to prevent electrical shorts during repair.

  2. Access the Switch

Carefully pry out or unscrew the panel housing the faulty rear hitch rocker switch (either on the side console or the rear fender, depending on which switch triggered the fault).

  3. Remove the Faulty Switch

Unplug the wiring harness connector from the back of the switch. Depress the retaining tabs on the switch body and push it out of the mounting panel.

  4. Install the New Switch

Snap the new OEM rocker switch into the panel until it clicks securely into place. Reconnect the wiring harness plug.

  5. Reassemble

Reinstall the console or fender panel.

  6. Activate/Calibrate the Hitch

Turn the tractor's power back on. You must activate the 3-point hitch switch for it to respond. The standard activation sequence for Global Series and similar models is to press the button: Up, Down, Up, Down, then hold the Up button. Note that it may take a moment for the hitch to respond if there is no weight on it.

Parts you might need

(2)
  • Rear Hitch Raise/Lower Rocker Switch (Toggle Switch)

    6249013M91

    3-position On/Off/On rocker switch, fits 5700, 5S, and 6700 series

  • AGCO Switch, Rocker, 3-Point Hitch Up/Down

    ACW1598340

Always verify the exact part number against your tractor's serial number, as cab console switches and external mudguard/fender switches have different housings and connectors.
