Massey Ferguson 08.03.28 – HITCH: Issue With Signal From Hitch Draft Control Dial

The controller is receiving an improper signal (or no signal at all) from the draft control potentiometer (dial) located on the operator's console or armrest. The system detects that the voltage is either out of the expected range (too high/too low), shorted to ground, shorted to power, or that there is an open circuit in the wiring harness.

   Inspect the wiring harness leading from the draft control dial on the right-hand console/armrest to the HITCH module for pinched wires, chafing, or rodent damage.

   Disconnect the plug at the draft control dial and inspect the pins for corrosion, moisture, or pushed-out terminals.

   With the key ON, use a multimeter to verify that the potentiometer is receiving its 5V reference signal and has a solid ground from the HITCH module.

   Measure the signal wire voltage while slowly turning the draft control dial from minimum to maximum. The voltage should increase and decrease smoothly without dropping to 0V or jumping erratically.

   Power Down

   Turn off the tractor ignition and disconnect the negative battery cable to prevent electrical shorts.

   Access the Switch

   Carefully pry up or unscrew the trim panel on the right-hand operator console or armrest where the draft control dial is mounted.

   Disconnect

   Unplug the electrical connector from the bottom of the draft control dial switch.

   Remove the Switch

   Depress the retaining tabs or remove the mounting screws holding the switch into the console panel, and pull the old switch out.

   Install the New Part

   Push the new draft control dial into the panel until it clicks into place (or secure it with the screws).

   Reconnect

   Plug the electrical connector into the new switch. Reinstall the console trim panel.

   Calibrate

   Reconnect the battery. Turn the key ON and clear the fault codes using a diagnostic tool. Note: Depending on the exact model, a hydraulic lift autocalibration routine may need to be performed via the dash or diagnostic tool so the HITCH module can learn the new potentiometer's minimum and maximum values.
