Massey Ferguson 08.03.2B – HITCH: Issue With Signal From Hitch Transport Dampening Button (HITCH)

Issue description

This code indicates a signal failure or communication error originating from the Hitch Transport Dampening Button (also known as the Active Transport Control (ATC) or Continuous Damping Control switch). The system has detected an open circuit, short circuit, or implausible signal from this switch.

Check the cause

  1. Inspect the Hitch Transport Dampening Button for physical damage, sticking, or liquid intrusion

  2. Connect a diagnostic tool to monitor the HITCH module data stream and verify if the module recognizes the switch state change

  3. Remove the armrest/console trim to inspect the switch connector for loose pins, corrosion, or backed-out wires

  4. Test the switch for internal continuity when toggled, and check the wiring harness to the Rear Hitch Module for continuity, shorts to ground, or shorts to power

Repair steps

  1. Power Down

Turn off the tractor, remove the key, and disconnect the negative battery terminal to prevent electrical shorts.

  2. Access the Switch

Carefully pry up the switch bezel or remove the retaining screws on the right-hand armrest/console panel to access the underside of the switch cluster.

  3. Disconnect

Unplug the electrical harness connector from the back of the Hitch Transport Dampening Button.

  4. Replace or Repair

If the switch failed the multimeter test, pop the old switch out of the panel and snap the new OEM switch into place. If the wiring was found to be chafed or broken (commonly where the harness routes through the armrest pivot), splice and heat-shrink the damaged wires.

  5. Reassembly

Reconnect the electrical harness to the switch, seat the panel back into the armrest, and secure any screws.

  6. Clear and Test

Reconnect the battery. Use your diagnostic tool to clear the 08.03.2B code. Start the tractor, engage the rear linkage, and press the Transport Dampening Button (the indicator LED should illuminate) to verify the repair.

Parts you might need

(1)
  • Hitch Transport Dampening Button / Active Transport Control (ATC) Switch

Exact OEM part numbers for armrest rocker switches vary heavily depending on the specific cab trim level (Essential, Efficient, or Exclusive) and the exact model year. You will need to reference the specific tractor's serial number in the AGCO/Massey Ferguson parts catalog to order the exact matching switch block or individual rocker.
