Massey Ferguson 08.03.31 – HITCH: Issue With Signal From Rear Hitch Right Draft Pin (HITCH)

Issue description

The voltage signal coming from the right lower link draft sensing pin is outside the normal operating range. This indicates that the sensor has failed, is disconnected, or there is a short/open circuit in the wiring harness preventing the controller from reading the mechanical load on the right side of the 3-point hitch.

Check the cause

  1. Inspect the wiring harness leading to the right draft pin for damaged, chafed, or broken wires.

  2. Test the harness side of the 3-pin connector with a multimeter: Pin A (Ground circuit continuity), Pin B (Signal input for open circuits or shorts), Pin C (Power supply reference voltage from controller).

  3. Observe system behavior to see if the system temporarily uses the left draft pin to operate in draft mode, or if the function is disabled until the next engine startup.

Repair steps

  1. Turn off the tractor and remove the key

Ensure the HITCH module is powered down.

  2. Locate the right draft pin

It connects the right lower lift arm to the tractor chassis.

  3. Disconnect the 3-pin electrical connector

Disconnect it from the right draft pin.

  4. Remove the retaining bolt/locking hardware

Remove the hardware that secures the draft pin in the housing.

  5. Support the lower link arm and remove the pin

Slide the faulty draft pin out of the bore.

  6. Clean the bore

Ensure no debris damages the new sensor.

  7. Install the new load sensing draft pin

Ensure it is oriented correctly, and secure it with the locking hardware.

  8. Reconnect the electrical connector

Ensure the weather seal is fully seated to keep out moisture and dirt.

  9. Clear the fault code and test

Use a compatible diagnostic tool to clear the 08.03.31 fault code and test the hitch raise/lower and draft functions.
