Massey Ferguson 08.1.32 – Rear Hitch Module (HITCH): Issue With Signal From Rear Hitch Top Link Draft Pin (HITCH)
Issue description
The draft pin is a load-sensing strain gauge that provides continuous feedback to the tractor's Electronic Draft Control (EDC) system regarding the pulling force (draft) exerted by a ground-engaging implement. This fault code triggers when the signal from this sensor is corrupt, out of range, or experiencing an open/short circuit, causing the tractor to default to position control only.

Check the cause
Inspect the draft sensing pin for severe physical deformation, overload damage, or moisture ingress
Disconnect the sensor and inspect the electrical connector for corrosion, bent pins, or broken wires
Turn the key to the ON position and check the sensor supply voltage at the connector (often 5V or 8.5V) and check for ground continuity
Clear the fault code and retest. If it returns immediately without an implement attached, it is a hard electrical fault (failed sensor or wiring). If it only returns under load, the strain gauge inside the pin has likely failed
Repair steps
Relieve Pressure
Lower the rear hitch completely to the ground and safely detach any implement to remove all mechanical load from the draft pin.
Disconnect Electronics
Turn off the tractor and disconnect the electrical harness from the faulty draft sensing pin.
Remove Hardware
Remove the retaining bolt, locking collar, or circlip that secures the draft pin in the linkage bracket.
Extract the Pin
Slide the faulty draft pin out of the linkage bore. If it is seized, use penetrating oil; avoid striking the housing excessively.
Install New Sensor
Clean the linkage bore thoroughly. Slide the new load sensing pin into place, ensuring the alignment notch/flat is positioned correctly so the strain gauge measures force in the proper direction.
Reassemble
Secure the pin with the retaining hardware and reconnect the electrical harness.
Calibrate the Hitch
Replacing a draft sensor will almost always require a rear hitch calibration procedure (failure to do so may trigger code 08.1.B6). This is typically done via the tractor's dashboard diagnostic menu or by using the dealer diagnostic tool to teach the module the new sensor's zero-load baseline.
