Massey Ferguson 08.1.A0 – Rear Hitch Module (EHR ECU): Rear Hitch Module Internal Issue (HITCH)
Issue description
Internal memory failure (EEPROM error when saving or checksum error) within the hitch controller. The system defaults to a safe state, de-energizing the rear EHR cut-off valve, moving the valve to neutral, locking the hitch, and disabling automatic functions.

Check the cause
Cycle the System: 'Wake up' the hitch by cycling the fast raise/lower rocker switch on the console to clear temporary logic lockouts.
Hard Reset: Turn off the tractor and press the master battery disconnect switch (or disconnect the battery negative terminal) for 30 minutes to drain residual power and force the module to reboot.
Check Power & Grounds: Verify that the module is receiving a stable 12V supply and a clean alternator/engine-running signal.
Inspect the Harness: Access the EHR ECU and inspect the multi-pin connector for moisture, corrosion, or backed-out pins.
Attempt Recalibration: Use a dealer diagnostic tool (or the onboard dash sequence) to recalibrate the hitch limits.
Repair steps
Secure the Machine
Park on a level surface. Lower the rear implement to the ground to remove hydraulic pressure. Turn off the engine and remove the key.
Disconnect Power
Disconnect the negative battery cable to prevent electrical shorts.
Locate the Module
The EHR ECU is typically located under the right-hand side cab console panel or behind the operator's seat (depending on the specific cab layout).
Remove the Faulty ECU
Carefully release the locking tabs on the wiring harness connector(s) and unplug the module. Unbolt the retaining screws/nuts and remove the unit.
Install the New ECU
Mount the replacement or repaired EHR module and secure the hardware. Reconnect the wiring harness, ensuring the connector lock clicks fully into place.
Restore Power
Reconnect the negative battery cable.
Calibrate the Hitch
Perform the rear hitch calibration procedure (often requiring the AGCO Electronic Diagnostic Tool) to set the upper limit, lower limit, and draft pin baselines.
