08.2.23

Massey Ferguson 08.2.23 – HITCH: Rear Hitch Depth Control Lever Signal Voltage Issue (HITCH)

Issue description

The control module is receiving an erratic, out-of-range, or missing electrical voltage signal from the potentiometer inside the depth control lever/dial. The ELC cannot accurately determine the operator's commanded hitch position, often resulting in a lockout of hitch movement for safety.

Applies to these machines

  • 4707
  • 4708
  • 4709
  • 4710
  • T4 (2015-2021)
  • 5700
  • 6700

Check the cause

  1. Inspect the wiring harness and connectors leading from the right-hand console to the HITCH module for pinched wires, rodent damage, or loose connector pins.

  2. Verify that the depth control lever is receiving the correct 5V reference voltage and has a solid ground from the HITCH module.

  3. Back-probe the signal wire at the lever connector and perform a signal sweep test. Slowly move the lever through its full range; voltage should smoothly scale between 0.5V and 4.5V.

  4. Ensure there are no active 5V reference codes, which would indicate a broader module or harness short rather than a localized lever failure.

Repair steps

  1. Power Down

Turn off the tractor and disconnect the negative battery cable to prevent electrical shorts during repair.

  2. Access the Control Console

Remove the retaining screws for the right-hand operator console/trim panels to access the underside of the hitch control levers.

  3. Disconnect Wiring

Locate the electrical pigtail connected to the depth control lever and carefully unplug the harness connector.

  4. Remove the Faulty Lever

Unbolt the mounting hardware securing the depth control lever assembly to the console bracket and remove the unit.

  5. Install the New Part

Seat the new depth control lever into the console bracket and tighten the mounting hardware.

  6. Reconnect

Plug the electrical connector into the new lever and reinstall the console trim panels.

  7. Restore Power & Calibrate

Reconnect the battery. Turn the key on and clear the stored 08.2.23 fault code using a compatible diagnostic tool.

  8. Hitch Calibration

Perform a rear hitch calibration procedure (often required when replacing hitch sensors or levers) to allow the HITCH module to learn the new minimum and maximum voltage values of the new lever.
