Massey Ferguson 08.X.11 – HITCH: Rear Linkage Lower Solenoid High Voltage
Issue description
The control module is detecting a voltage on the rear hitch's "lower" solenoid circuit that exceeds the expected normal operating range. This typically points to an open circuit, a direct short to a power source, or a completely failed/burnt-out solenoid coil, which will usually disable the rear hitch or prevent it from lowering.

Check the cause
Inspect the electrical plug at the rear linkage lower solenoid for corrosion, moisture, or loose pins, which can cause an open circuit
Trace the wiring harness from the HITCH module to the lower solenoid, looking for rub points, pinched wires, or exposed copper that could be shorting to a power source or causing an open circuit
Use a multimeter to measure the resistance across the pins of the lower solenoid coil to check for an internal failure (infinite/open resistance)
Verify that the ground connection for the hitch control circuit is clean and secure
Repair steps
Safety First
Turn off the tractor, lower any attached implements to the ground (if possible), and disconnect the battery to prevent electrical spikes.
Locate the Valve Block
Locate the rear linkage hydraulic control valve block, typically mounted at the rear of the tractor near the hitch assembly.
Identify the Solenoid
Identify the specific solenoid responsible for the "Lower" function (refer to your specific model's service manual diagram to distinguish it from the "Raise" solenoid).
Disconnect and Remove
Unplug the electrical harness from the solenoid. Remove the retaining nut or clip at the end of the solenoid stem.
Replace the Coil
Slide the old solenoid coil off the hydraulic valve cartridge. (Note: If the hydraulic cartridge itself is physically stuck or leaking, the system must be depressurized and the entire valve assembly replaced).
Install New Part
Slide the new OEM solenoid coil onto the stem, secure the retaining nut, and reconnect the electrical harness.
Clear Codes and Test
Reconnect the battery. Turn the ignition on and use the tractor's dashboard interface or a compatible diagnostic tool to clear the DTC. Test the rear hitch by raising and lowering it to confirm the repair.
